Acocks Green Primary School is a thriving, happy, multicultural primary school situated in the heart of Acocks Green village. The school is accommodated in an Edwardian building built in 1908. It has been refurbished and redecorated over the past few years. This has ensured that the working environment is colourful and stimulating.
School has been very successful in winning bids to the tune of £2,800,000: since 2014 we have managed to secure £1,000,000 to replace the entire roof as well as install a brand new dining room and kitchen. In 2016 we spent nearly £200,000 to totally upgrade and refurbish our Nursery, and in 2017/18 we spent £400,000 installing a new toilet block. In 2018/19 we spent £100,000 refurbishing our outdoor play areas as well as an additional £50,000 on a new Well-being Hub to support mental health and well-being in school.
In 2021, we were very lucky to secure £405,000 which will totally overhaul our fire detection systems across the whole school site, and in 2022 we were awarded a further £700,000 to install a new heating system to fully replace the antiquated pipes and radiators - this will futureproof school for many years to come.
In 2008, a time capsule was buried on our school field. We hope that opening this, after the next 100 years, will demonstrate how much things have changed and developed over time.
Our children deserve the best and we constantly strive to deliver this.
Care has been taken to retain the original features where possible, and we always aim to brighten up the site with hanging baskets and flower troughs. The Nursery is housed in a separate building at the rear of the site, next to our school playing field.
We have a Computing suite and we make extra PCs and tablets available across school thanks to our wireless networks. Interactive Whiteboards and Visualisers to enhance teaching and learning are found in all classrooms.
The school has a comprehensive Intranet, which children can access from home. We keep parents informed and up to date on a regular basis through Class Dojo.
Fundraising
Fundraising is important to help raise awareness for a variety of causes, show support and benefit from that wonderful feeling of helping others. We fundraise to help purchase things to improve our school such as play equipment, we also fundraise to help others beyond our school walls. Our Chair of Governors produced this statement to help capture our stance on fundraising;
'As part of our community ethos, school raises money throughout the year with a calander of events. These will be spread out, being mindful of not asking too much of parents. These events follow a similar pattern each year with activities to raise money for school and some charitable causes. This includes school discos, Christmas and summer fayre, Children In Need, Sports Relief, Comic Relief, harvest and Macmillan coffee mornings. Governors have said this current practice should continue but any additional charitable fundraising needs to be approved by a majority vote and will not be the sole responsibility of the Head Teacher. '
Alongside modern technology school puts great emphasis on 'traditional' ways of learning, and we take great pride in our forest school, school garden, cookery rooms, library, wellbeing hub and music hub - all these elements enhance the very broad and ambitious curriculum which we offer to all our children.
